Regular Season Round 17: Villeneuve - Nantes 76-70
Date: February 9, 2014
Very expected game when 7th ranked Nantes Reze (7-10) was defeated on the road by third ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (15-2) 76-70. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It looked good early as Nantes Reze took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Villeneuve D'Ascq had a 23-14 second period charge getting the lead and Nantes Reze was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 70-76. Villeneuve D'Ascq players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The former international Johanne Gomis (179-85) nailed 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Mali center Djene Diawara (192-85) accounted for 12 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Villeneuve D'Ascq players scored in double figures. The former international Sarah Michel (180-89) came up with 19 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Marielle Amant (190-89) added 15 points respectively for Nantes Reze in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Villeneuve D'Ascq. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Lattes Montp. Nantes Reze at the other side keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Union Hainaut. Villeneuve D'Ascq will play against Angers (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nantes Reze will play against Arras and hopes to get back on the winning track.
