Regular Season Round 8: Recife - Rio Claro 75-58

LBF top team - Recife (8-1) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they beat seventh ranked Rio Claro (1-10) 75-58. The game was mostly controlled by Recife. Rio Claro managed to win fourth quarter 15-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Rio Claro 33-20 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. International center Nadia Gomes Calhado (193-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). The former international guard Palmira Marcal (176-84) contributed with 13 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Spanish center Renata Aparecida (182-85) replied with 11 points and Maria Claudia added 11 points in the effort for Rio Claro. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Recife maintains first position with 8-1 record. Rio Claro lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Recife are looking forward to face Ourinhos (#5) at home in the next round. Rio Claro will play against the league's second-placed Americana and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
