Very predictable result in Uberlandia where seventh ranked Unitri (12-8) beat 12th ranked Vivo/Franca (9-13) 94-87 on Monday. Vivo/Franca was trailing by 11 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 30-22 charge of Unitri, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 20 Vivo/Franca turnovers. American Robert Day (197-82, college: W.Oregon) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international point guard Valtinho Silva (187-77) chipped in 22 points and 11 assists. At the losing side Leonardo Meindl (200-93) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international center Paulo Prestes (210-88) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Five Unitri and four Vivo/Franca players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Unitri. They maintain seventh place with 12-8 record. Vivo/Franca lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Unitri will meet at home Palmeiras (#10) in the next round. Vivo/Franca will play against the league's second-placed Pinheiros having rather not much hope for a victory.
