The biggest surprise of round 1 in D1 took place in Ashdod where host Maccabi Ashdod (15-2) beat Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion (6-11) 72-68 on Wednesday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Tiffany Jackson (191-85, college: Texas) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Danielle Adams (185-89, college: Texas A&M) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. point guard Alexis Gray-Lawson (173-87, college: California) produced 20 points and 9 rebounds and forward Amanda Thompson (183-87, college: Oklahoma) added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion players scored in double figures. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion will play next round against strong Maccabi Ramat Hen trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Maccabi Ashdod will try to continue on its current victory against Elitzur Ramla on the road.
