Very significant was Barsy Atyrau's (#2, 13-7) victory against one of their biggest challengers BK Kapshagay (10-11) 78-73. The winners were led by Lithuanian forward Edgaras Zelionis (201-89) who scored that evening 13 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Zambalist Fredrick (183-86, college: S.Carolina) supported him with 19 points. Barsy Atyrau's coach Eduard Skripec allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 25 points and 9 rebounds by Uzbekistani center Dmitry Sviridov (212-85) did not help to save the game for BK Kapshagay. Cameroonian-Russian forward Yaya Adamou (199-82) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Four BK Kapshagay players scored in double figures. Barsy Atyrau maintains second position with 13-7 record having six points less than leader BC Astana. Newly promoted BK Kapshagay keeps the third place with 11 games lost. Barsy Atyrau will play against bottom-ranked BK Almaty (#5) in Alma-Ata in the next round. BK Kapshagay will play on the road against BK Almaty in Alma-Ata and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
