Regular Season Round 18: Hawks - Crocodiles 90-75

There was a minor upset in Gwynneville where 7th ranked Townsville Crocodiles (7-14) were defeated by seventh ranked Wollongong Hawks (9-13) 90-75. The game was mostly controlled by Wollongong Hawks. Townsville Crocodiles was better in fourth quarter 19-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Townsville Crocodiles 43-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Townsville Crocodiles helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 5 assists. The other American import swingman Kevin Tiggs (193-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. American swingman Josh Pace (195-83, college: Syracuse) replied with 19 points and the former international guard Steven Markovic (190-85) added 7 points and 9 assists in the effort for Townsville Crocodiles. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wollongong Hawks have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Townsville Crocodiles at the other side dropped to the bottom position with 14 games lost. Wollongong Hawks' next round opponent will be again bottom-ranked Townsville Crocodiles (#8) in Wulguru. Townsville Crocodiles will play at home against Kings and hope to win that game.
