Regular Season Round 17: KFI - Haukar 80-85

Very expected game when 10th ranked KFI (4-14) lost to fifth ranked Haukar (9-8) in Isafjordur 80-85 on Friday. KFI was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-13 charge of Haukar, which allowed them to win the game. Haukar outrebounded KFI 45-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Terrence Watson (200-87, college: Ball St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks for the winning side and guard Emil Barja (192-91) accounted for 6 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Haukar's coach Ivar Asgrimsson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Joshua Brown (187-88, college: Towson) came up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international forward Mirko Virijevic (201-81, college: Freed-Hardeman) added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for KFI in the defeat. Four KFI players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Haukar maintains fifth place with 9-8 record, which they share with Thor Thorl. Loser KFI dropped to the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Haukar will meet at home higher ranked Njardvik (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KFI will play against Grindavik (#3) and hope to secure a win.
