Regular Season Round 29: Brandon - Regina 50-102

Date: February 14, 2014
There was no surprise when 6th ranked Bobcats (6-15) were outleveled by second ranked Regina (19-2) in Brandon 102-50 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Regina. Bobcats was better in second period 15-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They held Bobcats to an opponent 23.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 49.4 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Bobcats 64-30 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Regina looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Bobcats' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Regina made 8 blocks. Guard Katie Polischuk (183) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds. Center Alyssia Kajati (185) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Regina players scored in double figures. American guard Cassie Cooke (173-91, college: Mt.St.Marys) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds and guard Stephanie Haynes (170-92) added 8 points in the effort for Bobcats. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifteenth consecutive win for Regina. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Windsor. Loser Bobcats keep the sixth place with 15 games lost. Regina will have a break next round. Bobcats will play again on the road against the league's leader Regina (#1) and hope to win that game.
