Regular Season Round 37: Akita NH - Toyama Grouses 88-101

Top ranked Akita Happinets (29-6) recorded its sixth loss at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked Toyama Grouses (24-9) 101-88. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Toyama Grouses. Akita Happinets managed to win fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyama Grouses looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Joho Masashi (183-82) chipped in 24 points and 8 assists. The former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-93) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 assists and American swingman Richard Roby (198-85) added 22 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses maintains second place with 24-9 record having just one point less than leader Akita NH. Akita Happinets at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Akita Happinets will play again at home against the league's second-placed Toyama Grouses and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
