Regular Season Round 5: Bejjeh - Byblos 80-86
Date: February 15, 2014
Bottom-ranked Bejjeh (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 86-80 loss to third ranked Byblos (4-1) in Bejjeh. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The guests were already 19 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 31-18 Bejjeh's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 86-80 at the end of the game. Byblos players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Bejjeh helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Canadian center Michael Fraser (203-84, college: Oklah.Baptist, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) nailed 18 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winning side and international power forward Ali Kanaan (207-85, college: Mass.-Lowell) accounted for 14 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Jonathon Avery (201-88, college: IUPUI, agency: Gamble Sports Management) came up with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Mohamad Fahes (198-82) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Bejjeh in the defeat. Five Byblos and four Bejjeh players scored in double figures. Bejjeh's coach Patrick Saba rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Byblos moved-up to second place, which they share with Sagesse. Bejjeh lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Byblos' next round opponent will be Champville (#7) in Dik El Mehdi which should be theoretically an easy game. Bejjeh will play on the road against Sagesse in Beirut and hopes to get finally their first victory.
