Leader Gernika recorded the thirteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 7th ranked Dist.Olimpico (5-9) 63-53 in Madrid. The game was mostly controlled by Gernika. Dist.Olimpico managed to win fourth quarter 11-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Point guard Judith Monasterio (170-84) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Naiara Diez (181-87, agency: Regeneracom Sports) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Maria Villar responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and center Daira Varas (193-89) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Dist.Olimpico's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gernika have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with 13-1 record. Newly promoted Dist.Olimpico keeps the seventh place with nine games lost. They share the position with Tenerife and IF Air Europa. Gernika will meet at home Araski AES (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Dist.Olimpico will play against IF Air Europa (#8) in S'Arenal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
