Regular Season Round 18: Kings - Hawks 84-102

Kings (#4) were upset in Sydney by seventh ranked Wollongong Hawks 102-84. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 102-84. Wollongong Hawks made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) who scored 39 points (!!!) and 6 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The other American import swingman Kevin Tiggs (193-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Sam Young (198-85, college: Pittsburgh) who recorded 26 points and 6 rebounds and international swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta St.) added 20 points respectively. Kings' coach Shane Heal rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Wollongong Hawks have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser Kings keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Wollongong Hawks will meet at home bottom-ranked Townsville Crocodiles (#8) in the next round. Kings will play against Townsville Crocodiles (#8) in Wulguru and hope to secure a win.
