There was no surprise in Langley where 6th ranked TWU (5-17) was defeated by first ranked Cascades (18-4) 55-39 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cascades. TWU was better in second period 12-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding TWU to just 7 points in first and third quarters. Cascades held TWU to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 26.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Cascades forced 19 TWU turnovers and outrebounded them 48-31 including 20 on the offensive glass. Ukrainian forward Nataliia Gavryliuk (180) scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Nicole Wierks (178) chipped in 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Laurissa Weigl (175) with 12 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Chantelle Martin (170, college: Utah Valley St.) scored 11 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Cascades have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 18-4 record. Loser TWU keeps the sixth place with 17 games lost.
