Regular Season Round 17: Mann Filter - Gran Canaria 83-84

The most exciting game of round 17 in the LFB took place in Zaragoza. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 8th ranked Mann Filter (7-10) to third ranked Gran Canaria (11-6) 84-83 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 23-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Gran Canaria outrebounded Mann Filter 37-17 including 18 on the offensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Mann Filter helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized Senegalese center Astou Ndour (198-94) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 17 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). American guard Brittany Chambers (173-91, college: Kansas St.) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Argentinian center Gisela Vega (187-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) answered with 20 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Laura Herrera (190-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 12 points in the effort for Mann Filter. Mann Filter's coach Alex Cebrian rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gran Canaria maintains third place with 11-6 record having four points less than leader Perfumerias. Newly promoted Mann Filter keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Cadi ICG S.. Gran Canaria are looking forward to face league's second-placed Rivas Ecopolis at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mann Filter will play against Jopisa Burgos (#5) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
