There was no surprise when 7th ranked Unitri (13-10) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Brasilia (17-8) 84-75 on Tuesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Unitri won third quarter 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Unitri 38-23 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brasilia made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for international guard Alex Ribeiro (191-80, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Welington Dos Santos (185-81) helped adding 23 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Helinho Garcia (186-75) with 26 points and the former international Lucas Cipolini (206-86, college: BYU-Hawaii) scored 17 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Brasilia. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 17-8 record. Loser Unitri keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Brasilia will face Palmeiras (#12) in Sao Paulo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unitri will play on the road against Liga Sorocaba (#15) in Sorocabana and hope to win that game.
