Regular Season Round 30: Denain - Lille 95-79

Very expected game when 17th ranked Lille Metropole (9-22) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Denain Voltaire (15-15) 95-79 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Denain Voltaire. Lille Metropole was better in fourth quarter 27-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Denain Voltaire dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Lille Metropole's 32. Denain Voltaire looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Lille Metropole was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Maurice Acker (176-87, college: Marquette) scored 25 points and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CS San Bernar.) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Brown is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Denain Voltaire's coach Fabrice Courcier used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American power forward Steffon Bradford (200-78, college: Nebraska) with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Ivan Almeida (197-89, college: Stonehill) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Denain Voltaire moved-up to tenth place, which they share with St Quentin. Loser Lille Metropole dropped to the bottom position with 22 games lost. Denain Voltaire will face league's leader Chalons-Reims on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
