Regular Season Round 39: Iwate Big Bulls - Aomori Watts 66-53

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Aomori Watts (16-17) were defeated on the road by third ranked Iwate Big Bulls (24-9) 66-53. It looked good early as Aomori Watts took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Iwate Big Bulls had a 16-5 second period charge getting the lead and Aomori Watts were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 53-66. Iwate Big Bulls dominated on the defensive end, holding Aomori Watts to just 5 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Aomori Watts' 30. Strangely Aomori Watts outrebounded Iwate Big Bulls 45-33 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory with 16 points. His fellow American import forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple, agency: Norton Sports Management) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Blackledge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Iwate Big Bulls' coach Dai Oketani allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds and Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fair Dickinson) added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Aomori Watts. Iwate Big Bulls have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 24-9 record having four points less than leader Akita NH. Aomori Watts at the other side keep the sixth position with 17 games lost. Iwate Big Bulls' next round opponent will be again Aomori Watts (#6).
