Regular Season Round 19: Zornotza - Cambados 68-71

A very interesting game took place in Amorebieta-Echano. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 10th ranked Zornotza (7-11) to eleventh ranked Cambados (7-10) 71-68 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zornotza. Zornotza cut a 18-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. It was an exceptional evening for center Alberto Rodriguez (206-75) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Jose Merino (196-88) accounted for 7 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Cambados' coach Yago Casal allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. point guard Arturo Cruz (180-93, agency: Dynamics Global Management) came up with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Trinidad and Tobago center Kyle Rowley (213-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 11 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Zornotza in the defeat. Four Zornotza players scored in double figures. Cambados moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Araberri. Zornotza at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Cambados' next round opponent will be league's leader Fuenlabrada in Madrid and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zornotza will play on the road against Araberri (#10) in Vitoria-Gasteiz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
