Rather predictable result when third ranked Min.Battipaglia (3-1) edged at home bottom-ranked Ancona (0-3) 69-66 on Sunday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Ancona was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 20-12 charge of Min.Battipaglia, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 21 Ancona turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for swingman Marida Orazzo (173-94) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Dutch Kourtney Treffers (187-94, agency: Court Side) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guard Carola Sordi (181-82) replied with 19 points and Estonian forward Viive Kai Rebane (183-89, college: Binghamton) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Ancona. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Min.Battipaglia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Promotion Group B, which they share with Napoli S.Dike. Loser Ancona still closes the standings with three games lost. Min.Battipaglia will face Broni (#5) at home in the next round. Ancona will play against Catania and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
