Regular Season Round 33: Aishin SH - Toyota Alvark 80-85

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Aishin Sea Horses (31-6) in Kariya on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked Toyota Alvark (29-8) 85-80. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. It was a good game for American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. The former international guard Keijuro Matsui (188-85, college: Columbia) contributed with 28 points for the winners. Toyota Alvark's coach Don Beck used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) added 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Aishin Sea Horses. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 29-8 record having just one point less than leader Aishin SH. Aishin Sea Horses at the other side still keep top position with six games lost. Toyota Alvark are looking forward to face league's second-placed Wakayama T. at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Aishin Sea Horses will play against Hokkaido L. in Saporro and are hoping to win this game.
