Rather expected game when 3rd placed Panionios (13-6) lost to first ranked Panathinaikos (18-1) in Athens 64-69 on Sunday. It was a very good performance for Lithuanian swingman Jonas Maciulis (198-85) who helped to win the game recording 12 points. Gabonese center Stephane Lasme (203-82, college: Massachusetts) contributed with 14 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. American point guard Errick McCollum (185-88, college: Goshen) answered with 27 points and 7 assists and the other American import guard Marc Antonio Carter (191-85, college: NC-Wilmington) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Panionios. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panathinaikos have an impressive series of eighteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-1 record. Panionios lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. Panathinaikos will face Aris (#8) in Thessaloniki in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Ilysiakos.
