No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Montepaschi Siena (13-7) beat on the road 9th ranked Umana Venezia (9-11) 71-66 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 39-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Montepaschi Siena forced 21 Umana Venezia turnovers. Strangely Umana Venezia outrebounded Montepaschi Siena 37-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. American forward Josh Carter (200-88, college: Texas A&M) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points. American-Azerbaijani power forward Spencer Nelson (203-80, college: Utah St.) contributed with 12 points for the winners. American Andre Smith (204-85, college: N.Dakota St.) replied with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) added 11 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Umana Venezia. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 13-7 record. Umana Venezia lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 11 games lost. Montepaschi Siena will face Sutor Montegranaro (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them.
