Regular Season Round 40: Sendai 89ers - Niigata Albirex 67-64

A very close game took place in Sendai between Sendai 89ers and Niigata Albirex. Eighth ranked Sendai 89ers (16-18) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Niigata Albirex (22-13). Sendai 89ers managed to escape with a 3-point win 67-64 on Sunday evening. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 23-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import forward DeAngelo Casto (203-90, college: Washington St.) who added 12 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) responded with 16 points and point guard Takamichi Takamichi (182-78) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Sendai 89ers moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aomori Watts and Yokohama BC. Loser Niigata Albirex keeps the fifth position with 13 games lost. Sendai 89ers will meet Gunma (#10) on the road in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play against Iwate Big Bulls (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
