No shocking result in a game in Sao Paolo where third ranked Pinheiros (18-7) defeated 16th ranked Universo/Goiania (6-19) 90-78 on Friday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pinheiros made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Joe Smith (192-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who added 19 points during the contest. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international swingman Diego Pinheiro (195-80) responded with 26 points and Uruguayan forward Emilio Taboada (191-82) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros moved-up to second place, which they share with Paulistano. Universo/Goiania lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 19 games lost. Pinheiros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Universo/Goiania will play against Liga Sorocaba (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
