We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked New Zealand Breakers (10-15) lost on the road to seventh ranked Cairns Taipans (10-15) 92-87 on Saturday. New Zealand Breakers were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 26-19 charge of Cairns Taipans, which allowed them to win the game. New Zealand Breakers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists. International guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) contributed with 16 points and 5 steals for the winners. American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) replied with 15 points and 8 rebounds and New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) added 17 points in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Breakers. Cairns Taipans will face higher ranked Wollongong Hawks (#5) in Gwynneville in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
