Regular Season Round 24: Firenze - Agrigento 80-83

Fifteenth-ranked Firenze (8-16) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Agrigento (19-5) on Sunday. The visitors from Agrigento managed to secure only three-point victory 83-80. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Firenze won fourth quarter 28-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Agrigento made 30-of-34 free shots (88.2 percent) during the game, while Firenze only scored twelve points from the stripe. 25 personal fouls committed by Firenze helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Kwame Vaughn (190-90, college: CS Fullerton) who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!). point guard Alessandro Piazza (174-87) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 assists for the winners. Four Agrigento players scored in double figures. Croatian guard Damir Rancic (199-83) replied with 27 points and Trinidad and Tobago-American point guard Ian Young (191-81, college: Auburn) added 19 points and 7 assists in the effort for Firenze. Agrigento have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-5 record. Newly promoted Firenze keeps the fifteenth place with 16 games lost. Agrigento are looking forward to face Ravenna (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Firenze will play against Bari (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
