Regular Season Round 27: Denso Iris - Mitsubishi K. 73-71 OT

Sixth-ranked Mitsubishi K. (17-9) made lots of trouble for second ranked Denso Iris (22-4) in Kariya on Sunday. Denso Iris managed to secure only two-point victory 73-71. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Mitsubishi K.. Mitsubishi K. was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 15-10 charge of Denso Iris, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-11. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). International guard Kumiko Oba (169-88) chipped in 23 points. At the other side the best for losing team was international center Enjin Wantsu (189-87) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and international swingman Michiko Miyamoto (175-86) added 23 points respectively. Denso Iris have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain second place with 22-4 record having four points less than leader JX Sunflowers. Mitsubishi K. at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Denso Iris will face again Mitsubishi K. (#6) in Nagoya in the next round.
