Regular Season Round 23: Kalev/Cramo - Rapla 81-50
Date: March 6, 2014
There was no surprise in Tallinn where 7th ranked Rapla (8-18) was crushed by second ranked Kalev/Cramo (21-2) 81-50 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Kalev/Cramo. Rapla was better in third quarter 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rapla to just 7 points in first and fourth quarters. Kalev/Cramo made 28-of-34 free shots (82.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Rapla turnovers and outrebounded them 41-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Rapla was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Romanian forward Vlad-Sorin Moldoveanu (209-88, college: American) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. The former international power forward Kristjan Makke (205-81, college: W.Illinois) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Four Kalev/Cramo players scored in double figures. Slovenian center Ziga Fifolt (211-93) produced 8 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) added 5 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Kalev/Cramo. Defending champion maintains second place with 21-2 record behind leader TU/Rock. Loser Rapla keeps the seventh position with 18 games lost. Kalev/Cramo will face KK Parnu (#5) at home in the next round. Rapla will play against Tln Kalev and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
