An interesting game took place in Lille where higher ranked Poitiers (17-16) was upset on the court of sixteenth ranked Lille Metropole (11-22) 94-64 on Friday. The game without a history. Lille Metropole led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Lille Metropole outrebounded Poitiers 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Poitiers was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Ivan Almeida (197-89, college: Stonehill) stepped up and scored 27 points and 7 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and point guard Emilien Barbry (188-83) chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was American-Dominican swingman Jeff Greer (196-79, college: Rutgers) with 15 points and 7 rebounds and American-British power forward Laurence Ekperigin (201-88, college: Le Moyne) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lille Metropole maintains sixteenth place with 11-22 record. Loser Poitiers keeps the eighth position with 16 games lost. Lille Metropole will face Orchesien BC (#17) in Orchies in the next round.
