Regular Season Round 21: Hawks - Taipans 79-82

The most exciting game of round 21 in the NBL took place in Gwynneville. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Wollongong Hawks (11-14) to seventh ranked Cairns Taipans (11-15) 82-79 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Wollongong Hawks. Wollongong Hawks trailed by 17 points after 3 quarters before a 31-17 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-82 at the end of the game. International guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) stepped up and scored 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) chipped in 18 points. The best for the losing side was American guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) with 24 points and guard Tyson Demos (191-88) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Five Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans moved-up to sixth place. Wollongong Hawks at the other side keep the fifth position with 14 games lost. Cairns Taipans are looking forward to face higher ranked Melbourne Tigers (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wollongong Hawks will play against Townsville Crocodiles in Wulguru and are hoping to win this game.
