Regular Season Round 33: St Vallier - St Quentin 72-83

Very expected game when 17th ranked Saint Vallier (10-23) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Saint-Quentin (17-16) 83-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Saint-Quentin. Saint Vallier was better in fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saint-Quentin dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Saint Vallier's 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Power forward Julien Lesieu (201-83) stepped up and scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and American swingman Rasheed Wright (196-80, college: ODU) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Saint-Quentin players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Julian Gamble (207-89, college: Miami, FL) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import Steve Smith (200-81, college: Iona) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Saint-Quentin moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Fos Ouest and Poitiers. Saint Vallier lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 23 games lost. Saint-Quentin will face league's second-placed JL Bourg at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Saint Vallier will play against Boulazac Basket (#13) and hope to win that game.
