Asefa Estudiantes (7-15) survived in overtime against CB Canarias (9-13) by two points 96-94. The game took place in Tenerife. But the guests from Madrid were better at the end. It looked good early as CB Canarias took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. Then Asefa Estudiantes had a 20-15 second period charge getting the lead. Then CB Canarias managed to tie the game at the end of regular time, but lost overtime period 18-20. CB Canarias was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Bulgarian power forward Dejan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Slovenian power forward Uros Slokar (21-83) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Asefa Estudiantes' coach Txus Vidorreta allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international swingman Saul Blanco (196-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Lucas Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for CB Canarias. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Asefa Estudiantes moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with La Bruixa d'Or and Fuenlabrada. CB Canarias at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Bilbao Basket and Gipuzkoa. Asefa Estudiantes will play against higher ranked Laboral Kutxa (#8) in Vitoria in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. CB Canarias will play on the road against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Madrid and hopes to get back on the winning track.
