Date: March 8, 2014
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Racing (1-1) in Luxembourg on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Sparta (2-0) 73-62. It was a key game for the top position in League as both teams had the same 1-0 record before this meeting. The game was mostly controlled by Sparta. Racing managed to win fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sparta forced 21 Racing turnovers. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Secily Ray (180-90, college: Wake Forest) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Elan Brown (183-91, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Sparta players scored in double figures. Sparta's coach Jacques Sitz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Earlysia Marchbanks (180, college: Oregon St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 20 rebounds and power forward Celeste Stevenson (180-82, college: W.Texas A&M) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Racing. Sparta maintains first position in League with 2-0 record. Racing at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. Sparta are looking forward to face Telstar (#3) in Hesperange in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Racing will play on the road against Residence in Bereldange and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
