Eighth-ranked Yokohama BC (17-21) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Toyama Grouses (30-9) on Sunday. The visitors from Toyama managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Yokohama BC was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 24-18 charge of Toyama Grouses, which allowed them to win the game. Toyama Grouses outrebounded Yokohama BC 41-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Norton Sports Management) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American swingman Omar Reed (200-87, college: Bluefield, agency: Norton Sports Management) replied with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and swingman Masayuki Kabaya (183-82) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Yokohama BC. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Yokohama BC's coach Michael Katsuhisa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyama Grouses have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 30-9 record having just two points less than leader Akita NH. Yokohama BC lost third consecutive game.
