Eighth-ranked Yokohama BC (17-21) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Toyama Grouses (30-9) on Sunday. The visitors from Toyama managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Yokohama BC was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 24-18 charge of Toyama Grouses, which allowed them to win the game. Toyama Grouses outrebounded Yokohama BC 41-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Norton Sports Management) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American swingman Omar Reed (200-87, college: Bluefield, agency: Norton Sports Management) replied with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and swingman Masayuki Kabaya (183-82) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Yokohama BC.
