An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Wakayama. Second ranked Wakayama T. faced leader Toshiba Thunders. Host Wakayama T. (27-12) defeated guests from Kanagawa (34-6) 100-86. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Toshiba Thunders. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Wakayama T.. Toshiba Thunders managed to win third quarter 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Wakayama T. made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Wakayama T. outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 38-26 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds (on 16-of-19 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) chipped in 31 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toshiba Thunders' coach tested twelve players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Wakayama T. maintains second place with 27-12 record having eight points less than leader Aishin SH. Loser Toshiba Thunders still keep top position with six games lost. Wakayama T. will meet Tochigi Brex (#4) on the road in the next round. Toshiba Thunders will play against Tsukuba R. and hope to secure a win.
