Regular Season Round 30: Denso Iris - JX Sunflowers 45-62

Rather predictable result in Kariya where first ranked JX Sunflowers (27-2) beat 3rd ranked Denso Iris (23-6) 62-45 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by JX Sunflowers. Denso Iris was better in fourth quarter 18-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Denso Iris to just 3 points in second quarter and to 13 points in first half. They outrebounded Denso Iris 43-29 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Aya Okamoto (161-91) chipped in 21 points and 7 rebounds. JX Sunflowers' coach Kiyomi Sato allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) who recorded 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Minami Iju (168-90) added 13 points respectively. JX Sunflowers have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 27-2 record. Loser Denso Iris keep the third place with six games lost. JX Sunflowers will face Ebara Vickies (#11) in Tokyo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Denso Iris will play at home against Chanson V-M (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
