Ninth-ranked IR (8-13) gave a tough game to second ranked Keflavik (17-4) on Thursday. Keflavik managed to secure only three-point victory 126-123. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 27-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Keflavik dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 44 and made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. Keflavik forced 21 IR turnovers and outrebounded them 49-33 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by IR helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Michael Craion (195-89, college: ORU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 42 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (on 17-of-19 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO, agency: Two Points) chipped in 31 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. The best for the losing side was American swingman Nigel Moore (195-81, college: Alabama A&M) with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Keflavik maintains second place with 17-4 record having just three points less than leader KR. IR at the other side keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. Keflavik are looking forward to face Snaefell (#8) in Stykkisholmur in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. IR will play at home against Thor Thorl and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
