Regular Season Round 22: Breakers - Kings 106-78
Date: March 13, 2014
The game in Auckland supposed to be also quite interesting. 5th ranked Kings (12-14) played at the court of seventh ranked New Zealand Breakers (11-16). New Zealand Breakers smashed Kings 106-78 on Thursday. New Zealand Breakers forced 20 Kings turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Kings' players. American power forward Gary Wilkinson (204-82, college: Utah St.) fired 30 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. American swingman Sam Young (198-85, college: Pittsburgh) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and the former international center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) added 25 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Taipans. Kings lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with 14 games lost. New Zealand Breakers will face Cairns Taipans (#7) at home in the next round. Kings will play against Wollongong Hawks in Gwynneville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
