Regular Season Round 18: Segle XXI - Leganes 57-62

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Leganes (7-11) defeated 5th ranked Segle XXI (11-7) in Barcelona 62-57 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-7. But Segle XXI won second period 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leganes dominated on the defensive end, holding Segle XXI to just 7 points in first quarter. It was a good game for guard Alba Maria Garcia (173-90) who led her team to a victory with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Lucia Togores (176-96) contributed with 12 points for the winners. Forward Ana Calvo (183-96) replied with 13 points and guard Angela Salvadores (178-97) added 11 points in the effort for Segle XXI. Leganes moved-up to sixth place in Group B, which they share with Estudiantes and Dist.Olimpico. Loser Segle XXI keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Leganes will face Dist.Olimpico (#8) in Madrid in the next round. Segle XXI will play on the road against the league's leader Gernika and hope to win that game.
