Very expected game when 11th ranked Saitama Broncos (3-36) were defeated at home by seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (19-20) 91-74 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Saitama Broncos was better in fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Saitama Broncos 53-38 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sendai 89ers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Saitama Broncos were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. Travele Travel (203-88, college: Texas Southern) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and forward DeAngelo Casto (203-90, college: Washington St.) chipped in 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St.) with 23 points and swingman Michael Joiner (200-81, college: Florida St.) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sendai 89ers moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Aomori Watts. Saitama Broncos lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 36 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round.
