Sixth-ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (7-11) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Gernika (16-2) in Madrid on Saturday. The visitors from Gernika managed to secure only five-point victory 59-54. However their fans expected much easier game. ASEFA Estudiantes was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 16-9 charge of Gernika, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 13-8. Gernika forced 20 ASEFA Estudiantes turnovers and outrebounded them 49-32 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American center Britany Miller (193-87, college: Florida St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Center Patricia Valiente (185-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Alba Garcia (185-92) replied with 10 points and 6 rebounds and forward Maria Conde (184-97) added 13 points in the effort for ASEFA Estudiantes. Gernika keeps a position of Group B leader. ASEFA Estudiantes at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. Gernika will face Segle XXI (#5) in Barcelona in the next round. ASEFA Estudiantes will play on the road against IF Air Europa in S'Arenal and hope to win that game.
