Regular Season Round 27: ToPo - HoNsU 76-67

An interesting game for Torpan Pojat (16-8) which hosted in Helsinki 4th placed HoNsU (12-12). Third ranked Torpan Pojat managed to get a 9-point victory 76-67. It looked good early as HoNsU took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Torpan Pojat had a 25-6 second period charge getting the lead and HoNsU was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-76. They dominated on the defensive end, holding HoNsU to just 6 points in second quarter. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Laura Saarinen (187-92) who led her team to a victory scoring 7 points and 15 rebounds. International guard Vilma Kesanen (173-88) helped adding 15 points and 5 assists. Torpan Pojat's coach Kari-Pekka Klinga allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American guard Nikki Speed (173-90, college: Rutgers) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and power forward Titta-Riina Lepisto (184-90) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Torpan Pojat have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 16-8 record having eight points less than leader Catz. HoNsU at the other side keeps the fourth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Huima.
