Not a big story in a game in Tokyo where 6th ranked Kumamoto V. (5-37) was rolled over by second ranked Toyota Alvark (35-8) 104-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Kumamoto V. was better in fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Kumamoto V.'s 26. They outrebounded Kumamoto V. 50-28 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyota Alvark looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Kumamoto V.'s players. Kumamoto V. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Forward Devin Uskoski (201-85, college: Rocky Mountain) helped adding 15 points and 13 rebounds. Toyota Alvark's coach Don Beck felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Thomas Baudinet (190-89, college: St.Anselm) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of eighteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 35-8 record behind leader Aishin SH. Kumamoto V. lost sixteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with 37 games lost. Toyota Alvark will face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#3) in Nagoya in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Kumamoto V. will play at home against Hokkaido L. and hope to win that game.
