Second Stage Round 9: Malbas - Eagles 81-69

Date: March 16, 2014
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Malmo where second-best White Eagles (7-3) were defeated by third ranked Malbas (6-5) 81-69 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 44-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Malbas made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was Australian guard John Fitzgerald (193-84, college: Lindsey Wilson) who scored 29 points. Forward Niklas Sellin (197-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Four Malbas players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jon Jonsson (201-87, college: Oklah.Christian) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard Andrew Mitchell (181-79, college: Kent St.) added 17 points respectively. Malbas maintains third place with 6-5 record having three points less than leader Umea. Loser White Eagles keep the second position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
