Regular Season Round 33: Brasilia - S.Jose/Unimed 90-91

The most exciting game of round 33 in the NBB took place in Brasilia. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-best Brasilia (22-9) to seventh ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (17-11) 91-90 on Thursday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Brasilia. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Sao Jose/Vinac dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Brasilia's 32 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Sao Jose/Vinac forced 20 Brasilia turnovers and outrebounded them 38-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. The former international center Caio Silveira (211-87, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and American-Dominican point guard Emmanuel Quezada (188-85, college: USF) chipped in 21 points. Four Sao Jose/Vinac players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Welington Dos Santos (185-81) with 38 points (!!!) and 6 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and American power forward Marcus Goree (203-77, college: W.Virginia) scored 19 points. Sao Jose/Vinac moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Uberlandia. Defending champion Brasilia keeps the second position with nine games lost. Sao Jose/Vinac is looking forward to face Universo/Goiania (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brasilia will have a break next round.
