Regular Season Round 27: Cognac - Pontoise 72-64

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourteenth ranked Cognac BB's (11-17) home victory over 15th ranked Pontoise (9-18) 72-64 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Pontoise won third quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cognac BB made 28-of-34 free shots (82.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Pontoise turnovers and outrebounded them 97-69 including a 49-34 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cognac BB shot the lights out from three sinking 24 long-distance shots on high 55.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cognac BB made 24 blocks. Pontoise was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Romain Hillotte (197-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 9 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. point guard Maxime Choplin (177-92) helped adding 14 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Alexandre Mendy (190-90) with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and swingman Parfait Njiba (199-89) scored 16 points. Pontoise's coach Ludovic Pouillart rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cognac BB maintains fourteenth place with 11-17 record. Newly promoted Pontoise keeps the fifteenth position with 18 games lost. Cognac BB will face Saint-Brieuc (#16) on the road in the next round. Pontoise will play against Quimper UJAP and hope to win that game.
