Regular Season Round 24: Hapoel T-A - Maccabi Haifa 88-85

A very close game took place in Tel-Aviv between Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Haifa. Fourth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (15-9) got a very close home victory over one of their biggest challengers Maccabi Haifa (15-9). Hapoel Tel-Aviv managed to escape with a 3-point win 88-85 in the fight for the third place. Maccabi Haifa cut a 15-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv made 29-of-33 free shots (87.9 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international Raviv Limonad (191-84) who scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). American guard Carlon Brown (195-89, college: Colorado) chipped in 27 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American forward Brian Randle (203-85) added 21 points respectively. Maccabi Haifa's coach Danny Franco rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hapoel Tel-Aviv moved-up to third place, which they share with Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel Eilat. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will meet league's leader Hapoel Jerusalem on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maccabi Haifa will play against the league's second-placed Maccabi T-A and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
