Regular Season Round 14: Amchit - Moutahed 84-89

Top ranked Amchit (11-3) recorded its third loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Al Moutahed (10-4) 89-84. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Amchit. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Amchit trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 28-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 84-89 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was Jamaican-American guard Corey Williams (191-77, college: Alabama St.) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 13 assists. The former international guard Rony Fahed (184-81) chipped in 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. French Ali Traore (208-85, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Beo Basket) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds and the former international swingman Fadi Khatib (199-79) added 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) respectively for the hosts. Five Al Moutahed and four Amchit players scored in double figures. Al Moutahed moved-up to second place, which they share with Sagesse and Al Riyadi. Amchit at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Al Moutahed is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Hoops Club (#10) in Beirut in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Amchit will play on the road against Al Riyadi (#3) in Beirut and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
