Regular Season Round 48: Gunma - Aomori Watts 69-66

Date: March 23, 2014
There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Aomori Watts (21-21) were edged on the road by ninth ranked Gunma (13-29) 69-66 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Aomori Watts won fourth quarter 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gunma made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Kenya Tomori (177-84) who added 17 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fair Dickinson) with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Nigerian forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Aomori Watts' coach Shiko Kotobuki tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gunma maintains ninth position with 13-29 record, which they share with Bambitious Nara. Loser Aomori Watts dropped to the fifth place with 21 games lost. Gunma will face league's second-placed Toyama Grouses on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Aomori Watts will play against Shinshu BW and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
