There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Virtus Cagliari (4-3) rolled over at home 3rd placed Alghero (4-3) 73-49 on Sunday. The game without a history. Virtus Cagliari led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Virtus Cagliari forced 23 Alghero turnovers. Strangely Alghero outrebounded Virtus Cagliari 40-28 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for forward Carolina Scibelli (182-86) who helped to win the game recording 18 points. Slovenian power forward Ana Ljubenovic (182-88) contributed with 9 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Virtus Cagliari's coach Carla Tola felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Sara Azzellini (170-86) answered with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Israeli forward Delia Gagliano (180-97) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Alghero. Virtus Cagliari moved-up to third place in Relegation Group A, which they share with defeated Alghero. Virtus Cagliari will face Biassono (#6) on the road in the next round. Alghero will play against the league's second-placed San Salvatore and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
